Collaborative Work
Form
Psychoanalysis offers a unique experience for each person.
It unfolds as a collaborative process between analyst and patient — a form of the ‘talking cure’ that seeks to explore and uncover what was formally out of reach.
In the sessions, you are invited to speak freely about what has been happening in your life, what has brought you to seek treatment, and whatever thoughts, memories, or dreams may come to mind — including those connected to your childhood and family relationships.
Over time, meaningful links between past and present often begin to emerge.
This can at times feel challenging or painful, yet it may also bring relief and a sense of greater personal knowledge.
Different people describe their analytic experience in varied ways.
Some say it feels like ‘a conversation with meaning.’
Others describe it as ‘a space where I can listen to myself.’
As one man expressed it: ‘It’s the only time I can speak openly about my thoughts and disconnect — if I could, I’d be here every day.’
A woman said: ‘It’s a practice that requires regularity and work, leading to links I never imagined were so important, even though I somehow knew they were there. This is how I can be pregnant today.’
And another man reflected: ‘I came to talk about my unsatisfied married life and ended up speaking deeply about my father.’
Initial Consultations
In our first meetings, you are welcome to begin wherever you wish.
I may ask some questions along the way, and it is often helpful to speak about your personal history and what has led you to seek analysis at this point in your life.
As part of the initial set of consultations, there is a brief questionnaire about your medical background, including any relevant psychiatric information i.e. medication, hospitalisations, etc.
This helps ensure that the support I can offer is appropriate and suitable for you.
Duration
The length of each session is not fixed in advance.
The overall duration of a psychoanalytic treatment also varies, depending on each person’s circumstances and the direction their work takes.
During the initial consultations, we will discuss and agree together on the frequency of sessions.
Languages
Sessions are available in both English and Spanish.
Sesiones también disponibles en español / castellano.
