About Astrid
Astrid Zeceña, M.A.
Psychoanalyst & Psychotherapist
Marylebone, London (W1H)

Professional Background
I work as a psychoanalyst and psychotherapist in Marylebone, London. My private practice with adults is rooted in the Freudian and Lacanian traditions.
My analytic formation at the Centre for Freudian Analysis and Research (CFAR) began in 2008 and continues today, following a period dedicated to clinical work and writing. I hold an M.A. in Psychoanalysis and Contemporary Society from Brunel University (2007), as well as a first-class honours degree in Psychology from Mexico, where I had the honour of delivering the valedictory address at the graduation ceremony.
Since 2024, I have participated in CFAR’s public seminar series, presenting talks on Surprise and Revenge. Both themes hold a fundamental place in psychoanalytic thought and clinical work. In these talks, I explore surprise and revenge as core in human life and desire.
A video of my talk Revenge (Birkbeck College, June 2025) is available on CFAR’s official channel:

I am currently preparing the written version of Revenge, having submitted it for possible publication by the JCFAR (2026).

My work also includes contributions to Treating Autism Today: Lacanian Perspectives (2022) as part of the Spanish–English translation team, and the Spanish translation of Lacan, Mortality, Life, and Language (2021) by Berjanet Jazani.

Previous Psychoanalytic Collaborations

In 2013, I hosted a FEP colloque at the Mexican Embassy in London on femininity and passions, together with psychoanalysts and writers from Paris and Spain. The event was conducted in English.

My Path

My encounter with psychoanalysis began through both necessity and curiosity. What started as an effort to question my own experience gradually became a desire to accompany others in theirs.

Before establishing my private practice over a decade ago, I worked in a range of clinical settings with children, adolescents, parents, and adults. I now work exclusively with adults in private practice, offering one-to-one sessions in person, online, and by phone.

My early clinical work includes honorary work at Mind Westminster (2012) with men and women experiencing family, love, or work-related struggles.

Earlier, in Mexico, I worked with therapeutic groups of adolescent girls who had survived incestuous situations, as well as with children experiencing psychosomatic conditions such as vitiligo, anorexia, and sleep disturbances. Later, at the International Community School in London, I supported children with varied emotional needs.

These experiences deeply shaped my clinical approach.

Psychoanalytic Orientation

My practice is grounded in ongoing analysis and continuous study, from Freud’s foundational writings to Lacan’s theoretical developments. For me, psychoanalysis is inseparable from the analyst’s own analysis — a lifelong labour (though not interminable) rather than a qualification to be completed.

Each analysis is unique. Session length and the overall direction of the work vary according to each person’s subjectivity and the Lacanian principle of the variable session.

At the centre of my practice lies subjectivity — the singular way each person relates to desire, suffering, and speech. I aim to provide a space where words may unfold freely, where something new might be heard, and where the analysand’s own logic of desire can begin to take form.
